Full Truckload (FTL) refers to a type of shipping where an entire truck is dedicated to a single shipment from one customer. The shipment occupies the full capacity of the truck, whether or not it completely fills the space.
Less Than Truckload (LTL) refers to a shipping service where multiple smaller shipments from different customers are combined into a single truckload. Each customer only pays for the space their shipment occupies, making it a cost-effective option for smaller loads that don’t require a full truck.
Partial Truckload (PTL) refers to a shipping service where a shipment is larger than a typical Less Than Truckload (LTL) shipment but not large enough to require a Full Truckload (FTL). Unlike LTL, PTL shipments are usually handled by fewer stops and minimal handling, which reduces the risk of damage.
Expedited trucking refers to a shipping service focused on delivering goods as quickly as possible, often with priority handling and direct transport. Expedited shipments typically use dedicated trucks or team drivers to minimize transit time and ensure fast delivery.
Drayage services refer to the short-distance transportation of goods, usually between ports, rail yards, warehouses, or distribution centers. Drayage is a key part of the intermodal shipping process, where goods are transferred between different modes of transport (e.g., from ship to truck ).
Refrigerated (Reefer) trucking refers to the transportation of temperature-sensitive goods using trucks equipped with refrigeration units to maintain a specific temperature range throughout transit. These trucks are designed to protect perishable products from spoilage, damage, or contamination due to temperature fluctuations.
Last-mile delivery refers to the final stage of the delivery process, where goods are transported from a warehouse, distribution center, or transportation hub to the final destination — usually a customer's home or business. It focuses on fast, efficient, and reliable delivery to ensure customer satisfaction.
Hot shot delivery refers to a type of expedited trucking service that involves transporting smaller, time-sensitive loads using a pickup truck or a medium-duty truck with a flatbed or trailer. Hot shot deliveries are typically point-to-point, with no stops or transfers, ensuring fast and direct delivery.
